 | Lebkuchen Storage Contrary to brown Lebkuchen, Oblaten Lebkuchen can be stored for extended periods. Oblaten Lebkuchen must be stored in a protective package and kept at temperatures at approximately 16 - 18 C° and with approximately 65% humidity. They retain their full flavor and are soft and moist after 6 to 8 weeks. Packages should be re-sealed carefully after opening. The flavor and taste of Oblaten Lebkuchen increases with time.
How long will Lebkuchen stay fresh?
A good way of storing Lebkuchen is by adding a slice of apple before sealing it in a vacuum sealed container. Leave the sealed Lebkuchen for a few days so that the Lebkuchen can absorb the moisture of the sliced apple. Do not leave it standing too long as it can cause mildew where too much moisture will cause the Lebkuchen to stick together.
The chocolate covering the Lebkuchen may show a slight whitish discoloring. This is normal and does not mean that the quality or taste is compromised in any way. By chocolate being exposed to warmth for short periods, normally during transportation, the chocolate can discolor. The Lebkuchen can be eaten without any concern. |
